History of Sarti

During the great population exchanges between Turkey and Greece (1922), the Greek inhabitants of the small island of Afisia (Avsa) in the Sea of Marmara (Turkey) were forced to leave their homes. Therefore they were resettled here in Sarti Sithonia Halkidiki. In a few decades they changed the hostile in a graphic fishing village and later in a leading tourist destination. The 21st century will find the region touristically mature and as always sublime, to receive tourists from all over the world every summer. In conclusion Sarti offers what  everyone  expects..the authentic Greek hospitality.

The Agiopavlitiko metochi

The Agiopavlitiko metochi of the Holy Monastery of Xiropotamos is located west of Sarti and next to the church of Zoodochos Pigi. Built in 1907, it functioned as a monastery. After that it hosted the first families who came from Lavrio to live in the area and create the village of Sarti.

The Historical Folklore Museum of Sarti was created in 2007 by the Cultural Association of Sarti ” Afisia”. The aim was to collect and preserve all the pieces of history that were saved from the homeland of our ancestors Afisia.
